Larry L. Macon, Jr. JD MA

Larry Macon, Jr. JD MA is a pastor, business executive, leader, author, and motivational speaker. He has also been in the field of media and television as a show host and a recording artist in the music industry . He currently serves as the Senior Pastor and Bishop of Mt. Zion Church of Oakwood Village, a ministry that now serves a membership of more than 6,000 people and is one of the largest churches in the Greater Cleveland area.

He is the former Vice-Chairman of the board of Trustees for Central State University, where he
was responsible for over 4 new building projects, and was the chairman of the presidential search committee who would be instrumental in choosing Central State’s 9th president in the schools history. As the former Co-Host of NBC’s Cleveland Affiliate WKYC TV’s morning show “Live on Lakeside,” where he highlighted people in the community who were doing great things for others, and promoting small business owners in the Greater Cleveland Community. He has devoted his life to helping others through teaching at conferences, writing books, and coaching individuals that seek his counsel, and currently is a consultant to the Bedford School District as a teacher and coach of their training academy for administrators, teachers, and district staff.

His philanthropic efforts lie in his role as organizer of the Haitian relief efforts for the Mt. Zion
Ministry, and Safe Surrender, a program in conjunction with the U.S. Marshals to help aid and
exonerate, and safely surrender and advocate for more than 7,000 people with outstanding
warrants. During the pandemic of 2020 – 2022 he was one of the strategic partners with the
Cleveland Area on Agency to house a Senior feeding program which fed over 750,000 meals
during the pandemic to seniors who were unable to leave their homes.

In the late 1990’s he was in charge of leading an organ and tissue donation campaign called “Get Carded” during his tenure as a college student at the University of Central Florida. He is the organizer and host of one of the largest financial conferences in the Greater Cleveland area called “The Freedom & Life Conference for Financial Empowerment,” where he partners with local banks and financial institutions to mentor people on financial planning and living debt-free lives.

He created the first large scale food pantry in Oakwood Village at the Mt. Zion Church, in
partnership with the Cleveland Food Bank which now feeds over 200 people weekly.

He served as the Director of Governmental Affairs and Multicultural Affairs for the University of
Central Florida. Mr. Macon worked in the United States Congress where one of his first missions and accomplishments was to get the Tuskegee Airman their first U.S. stamp. He also worked with the Orange County Government of Florida for their summer feeding program directing the county on feeding underprivileged children during the summer months. Mr. Macon served as a trained mediator for Community Legal Services of Mid-Florida and fought for the rights of tenants in landlord tenant disputes, and was named a Minority Leaders Fellow in Washington, D.C. for his efforts.

Mr. Macon was selected for Kaleidoscope magazine’s 40 Under 40, a feature of “40 men and
women ages 40 and under, who are making significant contributions within the United States and within their respective organizations.” He is also a proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc.

Mr. Macon earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from the University of Central Florida, a master’s degree in Theological Studies from Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA and a Juris Doctor of Law from Florida A&M University, College of Law where he graduated in the Inaugural Class of 2005. During his time at Florida A&M University, he organized and published “The Independent Strike,” which was the first law school newsletter in the history of the school.

He has authored four books, one co-authored with his father and brother named, Porch Stories: Told and Interpreted, and is the sole author of Captured but not Conquered: How to the Live the Life of a Survivor, Relationships: Seven Steps to Healing, Restoration, & Reconciliation, and “The Secret to Your Success: 12 Steps for Turning Your Biggest Dreams into a Reality. As a Contemporary Christian Recording Artist, he released two singles entitled “I Give You My Life,” and “All I need” which he has already had reached high online streaming honors.

Mr. Macon is a native of Cleveland, Ohio, where he continues to positively impact countless lives. He loves his family, and is the proud husband of Elodie Macon and father of three children, Alana, Michael, and Lauryn. He is the son of Bishop Larry Macon, Sr., and mother Marilyn Macon, and brother to Rev. Daniel Macon.
